Health Center Analyst

New York, NY or Remote / Full-time

Join a small, dynamic team that's raising the bar for health center analytics.

Relevant’s mission is to support community health centers in their drive to improve patient health. We do this by providing smart, friendly analytics software, along with hands-on support and consulting to help health centers do things like plan for patient visits, identify high-risk patients, and measure the impact of their care. We care about feelings and enjoy making deep and lasting relationships with the health centers we support. We’re small, bootstrapped, and profitable.

Today, we work with more than 75 health centers, located in diverse communities across the United States. Health centers love working with us, and our services team is a key reason why. We act as a resource for the health center’s internal data team, helping them solve hard problems, sharing knowledge and best practices, and building their internal capacity.

This job requires top-notch technical capabilities, project management, and communication skills. Much of your communication will be internal, but you’ll also work regularly with health center staff and have the opportunity to do more client-facing work over time as that interests you. Successful applicants may come from a variety of backgrounds, but if you have a track record as an outstanding analyst or analyst-manager at a health center, hospital, or ACO, we’d particularly like to talk to you.

What you’ll do

  • Provide analytic support to our in-house Relevant consultants and health center staff Build reports and data visualizations; run scoping calls for more involved technical projects; ensure that technical customizations meet the health center’s specific quality and operational goals.
  • Contribute to the technical work of new health center implementations Develop a detailed understanding of customer business processes; extract, clean, and analyze EHR data; write lots of SQL, and build the foundations of data they will trust.
  • Support standardization and scaling Lend your technical talents to initiatives that advance the work of several customers or Relevant as a whole; identify improvements and new features based on your expertise and work.

What we’re looking for

Must have:

  • A track record of successfully navigating messy database schemas to produce analytics that drive change in healthcare organizations. Most successful applicants have gotten this through 2 years' experience extracting clinical, operational, and financial data from electronic health record systems.

  • Ability to understand clients’ underlying needs, with comfort and skill to dig deeper when those needs might not be clear initially.

  • A passion for solving analytical problems, and the SQL skills to do so! We’re looking for comfort with concepts like subqueries, temp tables, and window functions.

  • Enthusiasm for creative technical problem solving. You push yourself to find elegant solutions, learning new skills along the way.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You’ll need to communicate clearly and concisely about your technical solutions and approach.

  • Strong project management skills. You're undaunted by juggling multiple projects, ranging from simple to complex. You can manage lots of moving pieces and can make progress even as priorities change and personalities intervene.

  • A structured approach to solving problems and strong attention to detail.

  • Interest in healthcare quality improvement and population health management. You care about helping people provide great patient care!

  • You are nice, and you value collaboration.

Nice to have:

  • Work experience in a young company where many things are yet to be figured out. Even better if you'd like to help do that.

  • Excel wizardry. For example, we'd love for you to know everything there is to know about pivot tables.

  • Interest in managing customer relationships, consulting directly with health centers to develop and execute a data strategy.
