Health Center Data Analytics Intern

New York, NY or Remote / Full-time (Summer) or Part-time (Fall/Spring)

Join a small, dynamic team that's raising the bar for health center analytics.

Relevant’s mission is to support community health centers in their drive to improve patient health. We do this by providing smart, friendly analytics software, along with hands-on support and consulting to help health centers do things like plan for patient visits, identify high-risk patients, and measure the impact of their care. We care about feelings. We’re small, bootstrapped, and profitable.

Today, we work with more than 65 health centers, located in diverse communities across the U.S. Health centers love working with us, and our services team is a key reason why. This team helps clients use Relevant to improve patient care and assists them in resolving organization-wide pain points around data and reporting along the way. They act as a resource for the health center’s internal data team, helping them solve hard problems, sharing knowledge and best practices, and building up their internal capacity.

The role

Relevant’s internship program reflects our desire to invest in the next generation of data professionals and educate them about the world of community health centers.

You’ll join a team of smart, mission-oriented people who want to make a difference in healthcare delivery for the underserved and uninsured. You’ll do work that is both challenging and fun. You’ll learn all about community health centers, data transformation and reporting, EHR mapping, and SQL.

Main responsibilities

  • Build reports and data visualizations for community health centers.

  • Support new health center implementations by mapping EMR data points and writing lots of SQL.

  • Develop a deep understanding of Relevant’s product and its features. Create user-facing documentation and training material that facilitates improved usage. Help health centers get the most out of Relevant by beta testing, understanding and cataloging user feedback, and curating our report library.

Qualifications

Must have:

  • A passion for solving analytical problems, and the SQL skills to do so. Ideally, you’re comfortable with concepts like subqueries, temp tables, and window functions, or have the desire and aptitude to learn them.

  • One or more years’ experience working with and cleaning data from relational database systems, or other similarly messy and complex systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. You’ll need to write clear, compelling, and timely emails about complex subjects and collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders both inside and outside of Relevant.

  • You are nice, you value collaboration, and you care about helping people provide great patient care!

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in a client- or external stakeholder-facing role.

  • Familiarity with and interest in the landscape of healthcare quality improvement and population health management.

  • Experience in or a desire to work at a young company where many things are yet to be figured out. Even better if you'd like to help do that.

  • Excel wizardry. For example, we'd love for you to know everything there is to know about pivot tables.

  • Some experience with scripting languages such as Python or Ruby, or a desire and aptitude to learn.

  • Familiarity with a BI platform such as Tableau, Qlik, Cognos, PowerBI, or Crystal.

Working at Relevant

  • Join a small team of people (currently, there are 21 of us) who love delighting our users and making a positive impact through tech.

  • Help us build a company culture that’s friendly, respectful, and encourages continual learning.

  • Competitive salary, excellent benefits, 401(k), PTO policy approaching European levels, general emphasis on happiness and sanity.

  • We’re based in NYC but 100% remote-friendly.
