Director of Product, Care Management

New York, NY / Full-time

About Relevant

Relevant builds tools to support the work of community health providers. Our analytics platform is used by dozens of community health centers around the country, including several which have recently won awards for innovative use of technology. Our care management platform is the leading software solution within New York State’s Medicaid Health Homes program.

About Health Homes

Health Homes is a major initiative to intervene with high-risk Medicaid patients. The program was launched in 2010, as part of the Affordable Care Act, and spends approximately $500 million per year in New York State.

Health Home patients may have multiple chronic conditions, substance use challenges, or serious mental illness; they might be homeless or incarcerated. The goal is to improve health outcomes while also reducing total system costs, with a special focus on preventing unnecessary hospitalizations.

Dozens of organizations, from hospitals like Mount Sinai to community-based organizations like Housing Works and The Alliance, use our care management platform to collaborate on patient care and track progress for Health Home patients.

The role

We're looking for a Director of Product to lead the continued development of our care management platform. You'd be joining a dedicated and extremely nice team of about a dozen across eng, product, design, and CX.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership. Cultivate a fun, motivated, effective product culture. Make sure everyone feels ownership of the problems we're trying to solve.

  • Product mastery. Become the acknowledged expert on our product and how it's used. Know what works and what doesn't, what's important to users and why.

  • Run discovery. Lead a creative program of discovery work, including user research, value testing, and internal product design jams. Unlock the full potential of our engineers' product contributions.

  • Run delivery. Help us write exemplary stories, and improve how we build and ship them. Deepen our understanding of lean, agile, and devops. Be the steward and the final word on product quality.

  • Refine our product vision. Study the care management landscape and various market opportunities. Help shape the long-term vision for the product as we begin supporting use cases beyond Health Homes.

  • Manage a small team. Manage one or two designers and a PM who knows the domain inside out and is eager to work with a seasoned product leader.

Preferred experience

  • 7+ years product management experience. You've worked as a PM on several high-performing teams. You obsess about how to run discovery and delivery cycles, have demonstrated success in both, and learned from failures at both. :)

  • 3+ years leadership experience. You've either (a) led a product team, managing PMs and designers; (b) worked as a senior PM with significant autonomy and responsibility; or (c) worked as a co-founder or in a similar leadership role.

  • Modern health tech experience. Previous experience building a good/modern healthcare product is a plus: in particular, working on a complex application like a care management system or electronic health record.

What we're looking for

  • Good writing, good thinking, good judgment. You read a lot, are good at synthesizing research, and take pride in writing well. You can work at a high level, framing product vision and direction, but also care about details. You're an effective presenter and facilitator.

  • Technical and design fluency. You're comfortable with SQL and can make sense of complex domain logic. (Some experience writing code is a plus, but not required.) You can also jump into tools like Sketch or Figma when necessary and have a refined aesthetic sensibility.

  • A desire to make healthcare better, with a focus on equity and social justice. We’re not the kind of company chasing hyper-growth. We’re building tools used by safety-net organizations that are fighting health disparities, and are looking for candidates who find this focus compelling.

  • Be nice, and value collaboration. We think feelings matter a lot. We’re looking for people who are easy to work with and whom others always want on their team.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $140-180K/year. This is negotiable and depending on experience. Significant equity in the form of options, company 401(k) contribution, and other benefits are in addition.

Working at Relevant

  • Join a small team of people (currently, there’s 21 of us) who love delighting our users and making a positive impact through tech.

  • Help us build a company culture that’s friendly, respectful, and encourages continual learning.

  • Competitive salary, excellent benefits, 401(k), PTO policy approaching European levels, general emphasis on happiness and sanity.

  • We’re based in NYC but 100% remote-friendly. (Only a few of us go into the office these days.)
